Another band that submitted to us through our CONTACTS page, we went and heard ZERO IN and we liked what we heard. January's been a good month for some good bands (tho' we won't mention a couple that were so bad that we couldn't review them politely). Wanna be in one of our February reviews? Getcher arse in gear and submit us your links and info now then!
ZERO IN - myspace demos review
When a song (first one on their Myspace, "Setting Sun") starts with the line "you're next, music lova!" - a soundbite from one of the all-time favourite films here at The Kennel, Tombstone - then that's instant rock points before we're even off the starting block with the review. Genius touch! Zero In give some serious punked out riffs, think Rise Against, Hatebreed and Anti Flag. Also some bonus points for constructive use of the most famous line from Reservoir Dogs in the track "Gates Of Hell", a track that takes them out of the level of 'just another punkcore band' and lets them stand on their own tier looking down on the bands who fell at the wayside while Zero In found their own levels.
It's good chugging riffs, gatling-gun drums and raw vocals that make Zero In a band to check out. All the songs are short and sharp to a point, leaving you with enough but wanting more songs to listen to, an addiction you wanna feed ever louder and while bouncin' round the room for ages while your parents and neighbors scream for mercy. There's power and intent and passion in every aspect of this band from instruments to lyrics to vocals. Check 'em out, it's time we had some decent upcoming British bands in this genre. Their EP "Black Hearts is available now, details via their Myspace. We'll review the EP if Adam gets us a copy, but on the strength of the tracks on Myspace alone, these guys are one to watch.
