Not often that we get an invite to go see two bands at once, but that's what happened late summer 2006. So METAL-i hauled ass along to Croydon's famous Cartoon to check out both Silas and Snakebite. We'd heard a bit of both via their Myspace pages, but nothing quite prepared us for how damn good these guys are. Not just the fact that they fucking rock either, they're the amongst the nicest guys you could meet too, and were the first bands that Bulldog asked when starting the NOISE MATTERS project. If they play near you, go see. They rock.

SILAS and SNAKEBITE
LIVE @ THE CARTOON, CROYDON

SILAS
Right from the start Silas own this venue, they sound like.. Like silas livenothin n noone else you've heard, they sound like Silas. Thunderous, hammerin beats on stage and we were right, these guys come on stage and the floor fills. One song dedicated to a lost friend, but this ain't no ballad. Infectious grooves that double the number of people round the stage. The Metallica influence is showin but Silas own this venue right now. Contenders for Metal-i's band of the year, and right now nothin can touch em. These guys are so together as that there must be a hundred othsilas liveer London bands crying into their pillows wishing they could rock a venue like Silas. Give these guys a deal, and do it now. This is psychedelic hardcore thrashcore punched-in-the-gut rock that deserves the immediate attention of your ears. If it's the last thing ytou hear before your ears bleed and your head explodes, then you'll die happy. You can also check out what The "i" said about Silas' Myspace tracks HERE.

SNAKEBITE
Last band of the nite, Snakebite, have a lot to livesnakebite up to going by how strong Silas were. They're gonna rock, but how much? Time to find out. Soon as Snakebite take the stage you know it's gonna be brutal, Jason Smith taking the mike and thankin Silas for bein "fuckin genius heavy metal", and they damn were too! Snakebite might just be the band to knock the mighty MAN MUST DIE off the spot as Metal-i's top extreme band. As the set goes on, Jason's got more and more domination of the stage and he's enjoyin the damage, glasses are breakin, the massesSilas & Snakebite r moshin and the floor is a fuckin' heavin mass of bouncing heads. A live show that dominates every single seat, every inch of space, every rafter, Jason Smith is every inch the charismatic frontman. Today would have been Dimebag Darrell's birthday. This is a brutal display of Snakebite's OWN power. Announcing the last song of the set and of the gig, it's no surprise that with everyone holeveryone on stagelerin' on every mention of Dimebag, they launch into Pantera's Cowboys From Hell, a brutal, explosive cover which the big man himself would be proud of. In the last couple minutes of the song, the other bands have all piled on stage and it's a mass grindin' apocafuckinlyptic drum and guitar and vocal jam. Absolutely blindin' gig. Get a chance to see these guys then do it. Last time a band played Croydon with this much sludgey-heavyness and melody, it was Godplayer last July. Brutal, uncompromising, hard-drinkin' metal. EP "60 Units" is out soon. Check out what we reckon to Snakebite's newest stuff HERE.
