Another band that submitted to us through our CONTACTS page, in fact we've had so much to review this time round that Bulldog asked fellow metalhead and *i*-reader JohnBonham-atron to help review some stuff. January's been a good month for some good bands (tho' we won't mention a couple that were so bad that we couldn't review them politely). Wanna be in one of our February reviews? Getcher arse in gear and submit us your links and info now then!

PHONIC RAPTURE - myspace tracks review
review by: JohnBonhamATron
Any band that has Jesus Christ his very own self saying “They rock like a motherfucker” on their site has got to be worth a listen, even if they’re not good. So, time to fire up the Kennel’s speakers and have a listen. So, are they any good? Well, in a word, yes. The production is exceptional, a big fuck off wall of sound that just demands to be cranked up loud. And as for the songs themselves, we’re talking proper old school, out and out rock, here. Imagine the riffage of The Darkness with a proper leather-throated vocalist and you’ll get an idea of these guys at work.
From listening to the songs presented on their myspace, you can tell this is a band who wears their musical influences on their sleeve. Added to the influences on their site, I’d say there’s a strong streak of early, “when they were still playing rock” Bon Jovi running through the band, with the out and out riffage, and sheer “oh yes we fucking will” attitude of AC/DC. There are some areas that could be improved upon, the song “Dreaming of September”, whilst being a nice song, doesn’t quite gel with the other songs on offer here. Frontman Nik Scott’s voice is far better suited to the powerhouse, storming vocals of something like “Stronger” (a song Bulldog says sounds like "Doctor & The Medics rockin out with Zodiac Mindwarp" which you can rest assured is a compliment!), where his voice is, and I use no uncertain terms here, fucking fantastic! It should also be pointed out the rest of the band harmonise beautifully with his voice.
Overall, this is a good set of tunes (and whoever thought of naming a song “Fucktoy” is a genius), with “Fucktoy” and “Stronger” coming off the strongest. You can tell, though, this is a band doing what they want, having a bloody good time doing it, and making some damn catchy tunes in the process, and you really owe it to yourself to check them out.
