Another one bites the dust. No sooner did we find out about Fydolla Ho than we heard they've split, they are no more. What the individual members are up to is a mystery, though we did hear mention that frontvixen Shawnee Smith was possibly doing some solo material. Always a shame when the good ones go under, especially with this band's feisty, punky take on indiepoprock. We'll miss them, but in the meantime hit up their Myspace and savour what was, the unique sound that was Fydolla Ho.

Now this is a strange lil story about how we found out about this cult US-based outfit.
Sitting down watching Becker on FIVE TV. Decided the co-star looked familiar, couldn't place the face. Checked IMDB, it's cult actress Shawnee Smith. We find she's into rock and metal. She has a band. They're called Fydolla Ho. Say the name out loud in an oriental accent and you'll get the meaning instantly. If you don't then it's past your bedtime.
We hunted, we hunted, and hunted some more. Why are this band's albums not available in the UK? Found MP3's, heard, got blown away. Here's the crack:
This is a series of punk-pop-thrash-speed-rockabilly kick ass tunes that will have you bouncing around on the sofa, the floor, the bed, hell everywhere, this is Juliette & The Licks with a sweeter less-deep voice, this is Letters To Cleo with a fire lit under their ass. This is Garbage kicking the shit out of the trash compactor, this is female-fronted Tool or The Misfits, but with sweet melodic stylings coupled to rampant beats, this is Drain STK with a sense of humor and a bigger heart. There are balladic tunes too but we've not heard those yet. We will, and we'll review the whole album.
In the meantime, check out this band, check them out NOW, educate your ears, Fydolla Ho are the hottest thing to escape from L.A. in years. Every single track has stuff to recommend it, but our personal fave without is the absolute dynamite of "Affraid" , which has the most goddamn awesome and killer-catchy lines and chorus-hook. Go find, go play. Go play loud. NOW!
