We've once again summoned The Bon to write a review for us. As an expert in all things hairmetal (though lacking hair himself!! haha!), The Bon was best-placed to provide a fair review of this California-based band for us.
There's five tracks available on their Myspace at the time of writing, and well-worth checking out if this is your scene.
Funhouse - Myspace tracks review
Ah, the 80’s. The time when I was growing up, and lost my rock music cherry, as it were. And you never forget your first, which is why, to me, the path to enlightenment lies in big hair metal, with big riffage and stupid outfits.
This is known as “The Way Of Bill & Ted”…
…it also sums up Funhouse pretty much perfectly. Sure, you could use other adjectives like ‘bloody good’ or ‘dear god, this rocks’, but I reckon it’s pretty clear from the pictures on this lot’s Myspace speak for themselves. Basically, if 80’s metal had continued in more or less the same form, then Funhouse is what it would be today. When you listen to them, it’s impossible not to conjure up images of early Ugly Kid Joe or Appetite For Destruction-era Guns ’n’ Roses, and maybe a bit of Skid Row. Oh and Vamp, a band that I seem to be the only one who remembers… or, in other words, proper big hair, don’t-give-a-fuck 80’s rock.
But does all this mean that people who don’t like 80’s rock will hate them? Well, no, actually, because aside from the massive hair, there’s a massive amount of talent on display here. From top-notch songwriting, to damn fine riffs, to chugging basslines, to rock solid, pounding drums, everything just screams awesome. Screams it, in fact, nearly as well as the frontman screams his throat out singing.
Basically, it’s impossible to listen to Funhouse and not get your head nodding. It just rocks, in every possible sense of the word. Standout track on their Myspace: The Preacher. By a long way. And as for overall score, they get a big 4.5/5. And the only reason they lose half a mark is because not everyone likes this style of music. Other than that, I honestly CANNOT fault them! Get them signed up and world famous. NOW.
