Another storming Brit band up next, with Deadeye taking the stage for this review. Bulldog's strange taste in music is becoming quite legendary by now, but he's backed a winner here for this review. This is better than many pro US bands in the genre have put out recently, and it's a true symphony of audio destruction. The four tracks making up their "Better Off Dead" EP are available on iTunes, links below.

Deadeye - Myspace tracks review
Midlands UK-based heavyweights Deadeye grab you from the get-go, with their raw-but-finely-tuned power. Influences are clear but used well, from more recent stuff like Pantera, Machine Head and Entombed through to classic legends like Sabbath and Motorhead. The listed influences include all the above, alongside Wildhearts, Warrior Soul, Slayer, Dead Kennedys... and.. er.. Bucks Fizz? Don't worry, it's nowhere to be seen or heard in the event that the lads are serious ;)
The first track up on their Myspace, "Won't Back Down", could almost be Pantera if they were still producing new stuff, infused with an near-punk frenetic musicianship that gets your head nodding from the start. Second track "Better Off Dead" (see video, below), gets the subwoofers pounding with powerful bass and drum work, while Adi's throaty vocals grip your ears and threaten to rip 'em off. The band work together seamlessly to provide a modern driven track that salutes their influences without ripping any off. "Mindwreck", the third track from their offerings, provides some excellent melodic riffage.
Deadeye - "Better Off Dead"
"Green Turns Too Brown" [sic] follows the style of Mindwreck, with some funked up Faith No More-esque riffage and Adi providing a blend of throaty melodics and Jane's Addiction funkmetal on vocals, but we're hard pressed to pick a single influence to each song, just writing here first things that come to mind. Any band that titles a song "Fuck Fight and Die" is good in our books. A monster of a song right from the start that beats you up as you listen to it, and threatens to kneecap you if you don't listen to it again afterwards. This is up there with Snakebite's "Visceral Pissery" in our estimation, fuckin' awesome.
Putting the cap back on the Deadeye bottle is "Getting By", a spot-on piece of audio thunder with some spankin' melodics. It's short, sharp and just right, but this isn't the baby bear's porridge, it's big uncle Grizzly bear, and he's going to break your legs. The blend this band outputs has a label of it's own, and it's pure single-malt Deadeye. Love to see this lot take a stage with the mighty Snakebite, that'd be some stormer of a show. Production on all the tracks is excellent, even given the "Myspace Effect" of compressing songs for streaming. Not a note outta place, and there's a lot of pro bands out there with years of experience who don't sound this good. Excellent songwriting partnered with traditional-yet-modern riffs, in-yer-face power that will skin alive any chavs in the room. One serious contender for Bulldog's band of the year 2008, their "Better Off Dead" EP is now available on iTunes, so if you got it, show yer support for Deadeye and go buy it now! The links to the songs are in the side panel on the left. You can also buy their indie-released album "Blown" via their Myspace page for £10 + p&p.
