ABRAXUS - Myspace tracks review

London-based four-piece Abraxus take a raw, punked-up and slightly-indie but modern sound with plenty of energy and plenty of hooks both vocal and instrumental. Think Sleater Kinney with a Feeder edge. Singer Keri's got a voice that sounds sweet but powerful, perfectly complemented by guitarist Pete's backing vocals. Considering they've been together barely over a year, there's a surprising level of finesse and professionalism here. No wonder then, that they've already headlined The Barfly, Islington Academy and The Scala.

Don't confuse these guys with the grindcore band of the same name - and if you look up "Abraxus" on Youtube Abraxus you're more likely to find their namesake than this London bunch. If they make it big - and these guys deserve to - then it might mean a namechange in the offing first. Standout track for us on their Myspace tracks - and it's a difficult choice 'cos they're all damn fine - is "BIYGMA", some cracking guitar hooks and melodies that you'll wanna play again. Abraxus have an EP out - "Utopia" - available via their website's shop, we recomment you check 'em out on Myspace and if you like what you hear, buy the EP and support this promising bunch. Fantastic stuff.
